Overseas player announcement for 2015-16

Overseas player announcement

We are very excited to advise the Hawks community that this season’s Overseas Player Scholarship has been offered to and accepted by Eren Ranu from the Springvale CC located in Bilston, just outside Wolverhampton in the West Midlands. Having looked at the map, we can tell you that’s about 2 ½ hours north-west of London. Springvale currently play in the Staffordshire Cricket Championship.

Eren is 26 and is a batting all-rounder. He’s a top order bat and bowls a few dibbly-dobbly medium pacers that according to him, move a little. He describes himself as an attacking batsmen who likes to hit the ball hard and his statistics tend to support his claims. In 2014 he topped the charts with 1367 runs from 31 games including 9 * 50’s and 2 * 100s. His top score was 134, he averaged 45 and he finished the season with an incredible strike rate of 98. So far this current season he has 323 runs at 26.92 with a top score of 127* and a strike rate of 110. His dibbly-dobbers finished with 35 wickets at 17 last year and this season he is leading wicket taker with 19 wickets at 15.58. Let’s hope he can bring some of that love our way.

Eren currently holds a full-time Marketing role and is putting his life on hold for six months as he challenges himself with our cricket scholarship. While he’s here, apart from helping our 1st Grade team make a genuine play for the 2015/16 Premiership he’ll also be Assistant Coaching our U17s & our Milo Program and doing some specialist sessions with our other junior age groups.

Eren will also be looking for work while he’s here so if you can help, or know someone that can, please let me know. He’s a qualified and professional young man with a great attitude and he’s prepared to do anything from lifting heavy objects to chairing your Board meetings.

Eren will be staying with Jamie Weston and Dylan Sherriff while he’s here and we thank the boys in advance for their hospitality and help in making the club’s Scholarship program possible.  If anyone else within the club would like to help with accommodation for our International visitors in future seasons please come and talk with Paul Baird about it at any time.

Getting excited? You bet. Bring on the season!
Go Hawks!
